We currently offer two programs: 22q Parenting Circle and 22q Social Circle as outlined below:

22q Parenting Circle

Come join our warm and welcoming community of parents and carers who share the journey of raising children with 22q. Here, you'll connect with others who truly understand the ups and downs of this experience.

Together, we'll empower each other through the wisdom gained from our shared experiences and knowledge.

Our inclusive social and educational group is designed with you in mind.

It's a place where you can not only expand your social support network but also gain valuable insights into how to best support your family.

Equally important, you'll discover the importance of self-care and how to nurture yourself along this parenting path.

22♀ Social Circle

Join our vibrant community created exclusively for young women aged 18-25, all of whom share the journey of living with 22q themselves.

Here, you'll connect with peers who intimately understand the unique challenges and triumphs that come with this condition. Together, we'll inspire and support one another, drawing strength from our shared experiences and knowledge.

Our social and educational group is tailored to your specific needs, providing a space to expand your social network and gain valuable insights into navigating life with 22q.

Equally important, you'll discover the significance of self-care and how to nurture yourself along this extraordinary path.

Join us and embark on this empowering journey with like-minded young women who genuinely relate to your experiences and are here to support you.

Parenting Programs

Parenting can be both rewarding and challenging. We understand the importance of support and guidance on this incredible journey. There are many benefits to learning together with other parents.

In a group setting, you'll connect with fellow parents facing similar joys and challenges. Sharing experiences can offer valuable insights, reassurance, and a sense of belonging.

With a diverse group of parents, each with their own unique approach to parenting. This diversity enriches discussions and provides a wide range of parenting strategies to explore.

You will also learn effective parenting techniques and strategies from our experienced facilitators. Acquire new tools and approaches to nurture your child's development and strengthen your bond.

Finally, you'll find a safe space to express your feelings, reduce stress, and gain practical advice on managing the ups and downs of parenting.

Tuning into Kids/Teens ®

‘Tuning In to Kids/Teens - 22q’ is a valuable 6-week parenting program specifically designed to empower you in supporting your children with 22q to understand and manage their emotions effectively. This program focuses on teaching you the concept of 'emotion coaching,' which is tailored to enhance your children's emotional intelligence. Emotion coaching involves learning how to identify, comprehend, and respond to emotions in a nurturing and supportive manner.

Topics we will cover:

  • Heightened awareness and regulation of your own emotions.

  • Enhanced understanding of your children's emotions, particularly those with 22q.

  • The ability to emotionally connect with your children and provide them with empathy and guidance.

  • Practical strategies to help your children express and manage their emotions verbally.

  • Collaborative problem-solving skills to navigate emotional challenges effectively.

This approach fosters a strong and positive parent-child relationship while equipping you to better assist your children.

Care4parents

Care4Parents is a safe space for parents navigating the unique challenges of raising children with 22q. In our journey together, we'll explore various themes that often arise in such parenting scenarios. We understand that your path is not just about caregiving but also about self-discovery and resilience. The program is run online over 8 weeks and a two-month follow up session.

Topics we'll cover:

  • Managing stressful situations with grace and strength.

  • Embracing imperfection in parenting and understanding that it's okay not to be perfect.

  • Recognising the power of choice in responding to daily challenges.

  • Balancing self-care with the demands of caregiving because you matter too.

  • Navigating the emotional landscape of living loss and finding pathways to hope and healing.

We're here to remind you that you're not alone in this journey. Join us as we learn, share, and grow together in understanding, love, and mindfulness.

22q Capacity

Our capacity building programs follows evidence-informed and affirming psychoeducational principles established by our psychology team. Each term, this program centre around distinct psychological concepts tailored to facilitate your skill development and personal growth. Some examples of content include emotion regulation and resilience. Our specially designed programs aim to foster connections and enhance your abilities, ultimately enabling you to actively engage in community, social, and recreational activities.

The program is available for individuals, couples, or groups via telehealth (minimum age 14 years) or in-person. For parents of children younger than 14 years or as appropriate, we recommend that a parent attends the training to support their child in the home.

22q Group therapy

Cool Kids ®

In the realm of child and adolescent mental health, The Cool Kids Series of Programs stands as a strong evidence-based program that helps children and parents manage anxiety and related challenges. With two distinct programs, "Cool Kids" for Primary School-Aged Children and "Chilled" for Adolescents, this initiative has its roots at Macquarie University since 1993.

Cool Kids is used globally in clinics, schools, and hospitals. Its core components include psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, parental skills, in-vivo exposure, social skills, and improved coping strategies. These elements empower children and adolescents to understand anxiety, confront fears gradually, and develop essential life skills.
